There is no doubt that urban sprawl is a major contributor to the ecological decimation of now-massive portions of formerly undisturbed wilderness in the U.S., and in many other developed countries. The rapidly expanding urbanization of these areas, without thought to long-term environmental destruction, results in blocked wildlife migration, air pollution in forests, and runoff water pollution in surrounding streams, lakes and estuaries.
